Being truly honest, the prime driving force behind what we are doing here at 'Near River', with this blog, and indeed with most, if not all of our actions, is the burning desire to contribute to the transformation of the way we exist as a (Western) society here on this planet. And I'll admit that occasionally, it all seems too much, particularly when our 'leaders' make what appear to be totally inappropriate and ill-informed decisions.
And I'm realising that it can be difficult being a leader in a climate of change.
Then I remember ...
The planet is not a gift from our parents, rather a loan from our children
and off I go again, empowered to do what it takes to have this turn out.
So what are the simple steps to causing social change?
Spread the word - Encourage your friends to join you by sharing your views.
Advocate for change - Write a letter to the editor of your local paper, meet with an elected official, or call a community leader today.
Connect with others - Get involved in local events and groups that are helping to publicise your cause. Learn more about what you can do in your area.
Minimise your own impact - Ensure that you've taken steps to get your own house in order! For example, for climate action takers, learn about how you can save money and reduce your own contribution to global warming by making climate-friendly choices each day.
The Internet has provided us with a wealth of information, and an easy way for the world to connect and disseminate information. In the past week, I discovered some new (to me) social media networking sites.
If you are looking to find like minded people in the cause that inspires you, these sites will put you in touch with them, and give you further leads and courses of action to follow.
Care2 is "the largest and most trusted information and action site for people who care to make a difference".
Grow News "is a news service from AboutMyPlanet.com and will be entirely controlled by it's users."
PosiPeople "is an online, community-driven forum that gathers and highlights content, products, and services that make a positive impact on society and the environment.
Hugg "user generated green news"
A few other sites that I've found really useful in keeping up with all matters in the green arena include
If you've got some favourite sites, why not share them with us all by commenting below, or if you receive this by email, go to the Biodynamic Treechange site and comment at the bottom of this post.
To close, I'll share this ...
Everything will be okay in the end. If it's not okay, it's not the end.

Thanks Meg, and I agree with your comment - community sites only work when everyone contributes.
I'll check the sites you've listed above, and thanks for dropping by.

Zazengo.com
Razoo.com
Change.org
These are some more great social networking sites for activists.
I think its really important to remember that while these sites have the potential to be great networking platforms they rely on users being active and postive contributors to the community.
So if you join up make sure you get involved and don't just sit back and wait for things to happen!!
