Yes we surely do.
Yesterday morning Dixie's step-sister was born, so now both mums, Jenny and Cindy have calved, and the new arrivals are doing well.
What is surprising is how quickly, easily and trouble-free (at least
for us) this whole calving process has been. Aside from organising
adequate feed, which at this end of the winter season has been a little
touch and go at times, the births have happened without us. Compared to
the drama and un-welcoming surroundings that most humans in Western
society arrive in (brightly lit, cold, tiled antiseptic spaces) these Dexter cows have it sorted. But don't worry, we are certainly well aware that they may not all go this easily in the future.
Until then, we'll enjoy watching our new arrivals grow and frolic in the paddocks together, and in a few years, report on Dixie and Delaney calving too. Why Delaney? It's Irish for 'descendant of the challenger'.
And an update to the post ...And Then There Was Three: Dixie is definitely going to be a cow, and whilst I get that it's funny not being certain for a while, our excuse is that we're new at this game!
